The Power of Women

Hey guys! I’m super excited about our first post for one of my favourite categories, I Am Woman. I created this category solely for female empowerment and to act as a medium for spreading awareness of the difficulties women encounter everyday, their many talents and how impactful they are and have always been to the development of the human race.

I grew up around a lot of females, from my single parent family headed by my mother, to having only sisters and most close relatives being female, and to the fact that eighty percent of my friends have always been females. Over the years, I have learnt to appreciate the uniqueness of their behaviours and personalities and have always admired the strength they find to overcome a lot of the gender-related pitfalls they encounter. I have also seen how talented and powerful women are and how equally capable as men they are in achieving anything, with industry and a positive mindset.

This week we’re highlighting the talent of three amazing female poets, one of which has recently published her first book of poetry on the Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing platform. Patrice Simpson is a promising young writer from Trelawny, Jamaica who had dedicated much of her time to create a book directed at helping women through everyday struggles and she has no intention of stopping! In her book titled “She”, Simpson details her experience with many of these issues and how women can dig deep within themselves to find the power they were born with, and use it to overcome any adversity in life. The other two awesome poets, Saraphina Johnson and Timeka Stevens, are both final year students at the University of the West Indies and have always been promotors of self-love, fearlessness and hard work in young women.

A SOLID WOMAN

She is strong; she is beautiful.
She is amazing; she is wonderful.
She is very humble; she is very sweet.
She sweeps me off my feet.
She is a princess, an empress.
A queen that is uplifting and honest.
She faces a lot, sweat, tears, and pain.
She’s never defeated, nor does she complain.
She is joyful; she is fun to be around.
She is playful, but she firmly stands her ground.
She is music; she is the dance.
She is strength, humility, endurance.”

IGNITION

I can feel it.
The ignition of a fire within me which cannot be quenched.
It spreads throughout my body,
Through every organ, through every tissue, through every cell.

This fire excites me.
Excites me in unimaginable ways
Ways proving that I am indomitable, courageous, empowered and strong
But what do I do with this burning sensation?
− Do what you have always done baby girl

Let that fire shine through you so men will see it and glorify the Father which is in heaven because

You are destined for greatness
You are stronger than any obstacle which presents itself
You are unconquerable
You are the perfect masterpiece created by God himself
You are enough.

DIAMONDS

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

That’s what they say anyway,

Thinking that it’s because diamonds are expensive!

No honey!

It’s the process,

We are formed and cultivated with pride, beauty, strength and resilience.

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

That’s what they say anyway.

Not because it’s shiny, but as women we struggle for recognition and gratitude in a man’s world who sees us as objects that love riches, but they themselves are pinchers of wealth who struggle to see that a diamond goes through processes and when cultivated, are elegant and rich with grace.

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

We! are diamonds and we, are the expensive rock that holds a man’s world together.

We! are worth it.

  1. I loveeeee the poem “She”. These poets are amazing. Come through QUEEENSSS. I believe because men feel inferior to what we can do and how strong we are, that they find every way to TRY to belittle us. Like hello?? We play the biggest role in the creation of this human race sus !
